Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

LINC College Ministry

First United Methodist Church in San Marcos is a church of historical significance, having been around for over 160 years.  But, despite our age, this is a church that is still very much alive and energized.  We’ve got a great college program going with lots of different opportunities for you to get connected.  And, we’re only 2 blocks from the Texas State University campus, so we encourage you to come check us out!

Upcoming Events:

Thursday, Jan. 28th:  Broomball

Monday, Feb. 8th:  Bowling

Thursday, Feb. 25th:  Game Night

Saturday, Mar. 6th to Thursday, Mar. 11th:  Spring Break Camping Retreat at Big Bend National Park

Bible Study:

Discipleship involves digging deep into the scriptures and learning about what lessons they hold.  It’s about stretching ourselves in our understanding and discussing how to bring those faith lessons into action.  Two of our study opportunities are:

·        College Faith & Fellowship (CFF):  This is the main constant to our college ministry.  CFF is our regular, weekly gathering during the school year where we gather for a meal (FREE FOOD!!!), some fellowship time, and in-depth faith discussion.  We meet up at the church on Sunday nights in Todd Hall at 5:30pm.

·       Digging Deeper:  This is another great opportunity to sit down with other college students to look at how scripture still teaches and challenges us in our everyday lives.  In this class we explore the sermon and scripture taught in worship service and examine what it means to apply it to our lives.  This class meets at 11am on Sunday mornings in room 129 of the Gregg Education Building.  (To get to room 129, go all the way to the end of the hall towards Hopkins St.)

Fellowship Opportunities:

Community is about more than study by itself.  You have to be able to have fun together.  So we do.  Some of the things we like to do are:

  •   Bowling

  •   Sand Volleyball

  •   Tubing

  •   Campfires

  •   Broomball

  •   Camping Retreats

  •   Concerts

  •   Spurs Games

  •   Couch-O-Ramas

Service and Outreach:

Serving others is a vital part of our faith.  It teaches us how to love and to be loved as Christ loved the church.  In offering Christ to others, some of the things we like to do are:

·         Serving the hungry and the homeless in San Marcos and in the surrounding areas through our S.H.A.R.E. hunger and homelessness ministry

·          Leading bingo one of the local nursing homes

·          Doing some cleaning and fixing up around the church during the church work days

·          Working the church’s pumpkin patch and pumpkin patch festival in October

More Opportunities for Involvement

UCM-Wesley:

The United Campus Ministry-Wesley is a partner ministry of The United Methodist Church and offers students a chance to step beyond the borders of their denomination and experience worship, fellowship, and service with students from other Christian traditions.  Led by campus minister, Mike Miller, the UCM-Wesley is a cooperative community of the United Methodist, Presbyterian, UCC, and DOC churches.  This ministry offers a variety of involvement opportunities, so drop on by and see how you can get plugged in.  The UCM-Wesley is located at 604 N. Guadalupe (across from Jones Diner).

Bobcat Supper: A lively, informal worship service with an emphasis on group discussion and fellowship.  Meets at 5:30pm on Wednesday nights at the UCM-Wesley.  (FREE FOOD!)
