FIRST CONNECTION

WHY? It’s a great way to get connected, meet the pastors and ministry leaders, meet other new folks, and become more involved in the church! Child Care Provided

WHEN & WHERE … First Connection meets several times a year on Sunday mornings at 9:45am. Check with one of the pastors or staff members for the next scheduled time.

This short-term series of classes include the following:

Week #1 – The Basics – Overview of our Methodist Beliefs – Pastor led

 

Week #2 – The Traditions- Overview of Methodist traditions/history – Pastor led 

 

Week #3 – The Facility- Guided tour of our facility and an overview of the unique history of First United Methodist Church San Marcos, est. in 1847 – led by Historians Jane/Ken Moss and Welcome Center Co-Chairs Vicki/Erwin Janek

 

Week #4 – It Takes A Village- Led by Children’s Ministries Director Gwen Burton, Assisted by MDO/Pre-School Director Marilee Mayhew - Overview of all ministries for children (infants through Pre-teens) including:

Sunday School           Children’s Choir         Mother’s Day Out     Cub Scouts Little Lambs Kingdom Kids Christian Pre-School Boy Scouts

Christ Kids Camps                                         Child Care/Nursery   Girl Scouts Acolytes Worship Readiness Vacation Bible School etc!

 

Week #5 – Treasure, Trust, & the Parish Life Led by Council Chair Paul Mayhew, Assisted by Trustee Chair Amy Meeks, Finance Chair Randy Wheaton, and Staff/Pastor/Parish Relations Committee Chair Bob Goss  

 

Week #6 – Finding Your Place  Led by Lay Leader Frank Flauto, Assisted by Ministry Chairpersons. Find out how to be involved in::

United Methodist Women Mission Trips/Local Mission Work Choir United Methodist Men               Stephen Ministry (Care Centered) Praise Band Hospitality (Meals/Dinners) Care Core (Care for older folks) Bus Ministry

Youth Ministry  College Ministry Worship Team Altar Guild / Communion Stewards Ushering Computer/Web site Audio/Visual - Communications Drama Troupe

 

Week #7– A Piece of the Rock – Pastor led information about membership / Q&A / Information about Adult Education and Adult Sunday School led by Adult Ministries Director Katrina Allison

 

Week #8– AM Field Visit & Eve Dinner –Visit a Sunday School class of your choice that morning as a group or individually! An Invitation to bring-a-dish dinner at the home of Pastor Dr. Jenna Heart that evening.
